HERE’S THE LINK TO ACRES OF BOOKS SEGMENT ON KPCC’S OFF-RAMP
By Dave Wielenga
Greater Long Beach contributor Theo Douglas will be among the guests Saturday when the public radio program Off Ramp examines the death of Long Beach’s iconic Acres of Books—from how it happened to whether it had to happen to why the hell it took so excruciatingly damn long … I mean, is the place actually dead yet, or will there be another of those absolutely last sales?
Douglas provides the perfect perspective on Acres of Books and what it may epitomize about the makeshift makeovers that downtown Long Beach seems to be eternally undergoing. He was born and raised here—his dad took him to Acres as a child—and grew into something an expert on the city’s culture and infrastructure.
Off-Ramp, a production of KPCC-FM (89.3) in Pasadena, airs every Saturday at noon, always dealing with some aspect—news, arts, home, life—that makes Southern California unique and interesting.
