citylogo-bellflower1 BELLFLOWER—Work on the long-planned $2.3 million Palm Linear Park—a 3.5-acre swath along the south side of the Artesia (91) Freeway—is moving again following the funding of a long-delayed state grant of $1.8 million.

The park site is a strip of surplus state land leased from the Department of Transportation and extending along the north side of Palm Street from Clark Avenue west to a point past Virginia Avenue.
Lee said the linear park strip will begin at the Clark intersection adjoining an existing pocket park there.

Plans call for landscaping with native California trees and bushes which do not need a lot of water, a pedestrian path which includes a small foot bridge crossing a dry creek bed, playground equipment and a parking lot.

The shrubbery will be kept low to discourage transients from setting up beds there and for safety reasons. It will be visible from the street.

According to Bellflower’s community development director, Brian Lee, a cement square is planned, to be occupied by the city’s recreation mobile unit, called Bellflower Recreation In Motion. The unit carries games, athletic equipment and other items to set up temporary recreation activities.
