ALL WRONGY!! P-T COMMENTERS SPEW INANITIES FROM AN I-PADDED ROOM
By Greater Long Beach
THE HEADLINE: Two Long Beach schools teaching algebra with iPads
THE STORY: iPads and software were distributed to about 150 students at Washington and Hudson schools as part of a one-year pilot program that will compare the academic performance of a control group of students using the paper version of the new algebra textbook with that of students using the interactive digital version.
P-T COMMENTERS RESPOND:
How long before one kid is mugged (or worse) and the iPad is stolen? / JOE SCHMOE
here is an assumption that all you have to pay for is the ipad then the texts are free like downloading stolen music. In the future the district will probably have to pay for the texts, the reason that sholl texts costs so much is not the printing costs, its for the content. if the ipad version has more content you could expect that the cost for the text plus the “bonus dvd” content will be much more. / 2ND DISTRICT
Great! Now more work for the police department. Just think of all of the stolen IPAD reports they have to go take from these ghetto schools. / JACK
Kind of like how Bush spent billions on his misguided war in Iraq. No Weapons of Mass destruction…Mission Accomplished. / LISALISA
Why must all the brown kids get the fun toys to play with? School districts have no business wasting the taxpayers money on nonsense. I’m sure the Unions will be happy. / OLD GUYS RULE

I like the comments on the African baby rapes story much better. This one’s a lamer.
If you read the story- the book publisher disributed the iPADS to THE pilot SCHOOLS for free to see if the program would work. They are not given to the kids…the kids can “check them out” to take home.
Taxpayers (schools) are not paying for them- the publisher of the math book is supplying them for free. Of course they’d like schools to someday purchase the iPAD soft ware—but lets be clear- that is not going to happen for many of the reasons listed here.
You know what’s very sad about the ignorance surrounding these comments? Some of the children at Washington scored PERFECT, yes I wrote perfect, on the SMART test. Whether the two school have high testing scores or not, they have done amazing and they have some of the greatest students at their school. They don’t spend the year spoon feeding the test scores like most LBUSD “desired” schools who are falling behind on anything NOT on the SMART test. They actually teach everything a child should learn in their grade level!
Wow, I’m embarrassed to live in this city with such ignorance!
