thumbs_up “MAYOR’S WIFE USES HER FACEBOOK PAGE TO PUSH LB CITY COUNCIL FOR TOUGHER MEDICAL MARIJUANA ORDINANCE,” Nov. 8 [ By Dave Wielenga ]

It’s real easy for someone who has all of their needs addressed to dictate to those who don’t. I wonder when she sleeps on her twenty mattresses if she can still feel the pea? / DISABLED CITIZEN

I hope some enterprising lawyer hooks up with a medpot patient and sues Long Beach under the federal disability act. The city is making access to LEGAL medicine increasingly difficult. / HOWARD X

Pot is not classified as “medicine” under Federal law, therefore an ADA lawsuit is laughable. / LOU

“THE FIRST THING WE DO, LET’S KILL ALL THE LAWNS—AS IF THAT’S SO EASY,” November 7 [ By Jeanine Birong ]

Just found you online, am doing the same to my front “yard” in Laguna Niguel—trying to find a sod cutter is proving difficult!! I sprayed Round-Up last week, and it is working to kill grass, but still need to get it up—weeds and grass seem heavily rooted, not sure I can just shovel it out. Was the sod-cutter you rented easy to handle? I am a single, petite (but fairly strong!) gal, trying to do this on my own—would appreciate any help, thanks! / DONNA HUNNICUTT

“VECTOR CONTROL: DOES THIS CREW LOOK LIKE A CYCLE GANG TO YOU?” November 5 [ By Steve Lowery ]

Sarah Palin’s adoring fans across the nation should get a clue from the better-sensed Alaskan voters, for they would know the half-term, governership-quitter Palin the Politician better than pre-packaged, massed-media Palin parading herself around the national stage like some sort of corny American beauty queen. / DWR

“C’MON IN, THE WATER’S … UHH … WELL THE HEALTH DEPT SAYS IT’S FINE AGAIN,” November 5 [ By Dave Wielenga ]

Long Beach, the self proclaimed AQUATIC capital of the United States. Never mind that you will break out in a rash or worse by touching the water. Claiming to be the AQUATIC capital of a toilet is almost as bad as claiming to be the most BICYCLE FRIENDLY city in the US, and then going out and impounding bicycles licensed in other cities but not licensed in Long Beach. What’s the next City Council-proclaimed moniker we can look forward to? After all, Heal the Bay already rates Long Beach as having the worst beaches on the West Coast. Maybe it will be violent crime capital of California? / MIKE RUEHLE

I love this weather. / LB CITY GIRL

“TEA PARTY STOMP? NOT HERE, WHERE DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENTS WALTZED,” November 3 [ By Dave Wielenga ]

I can’t keep this to myself any longer! I VOTED FOR LAURA RICHARDSON. There…I said it (or at least I typed it). First off, you gotta understand I’ve been hyper-critical of Richardson for years. When she first won the Democratic nomination for Congress I was so upset I officially withdrew from the Democratic Party and I stated, repeatedly, that I would NEVER support Laura Richardson for any public office. Then along comes Star Parker. Holy crap! Talk about a scary reality check! Bottom line is Richardson has worked hard the past couple of years. She’s done OK on a legislative level, and she did what our friend Dana Rohrabacher wouldn’t do for 10 years—she got the Long Beach Breakwater Study federally funded. / WILL CULLEN

Will Cullen has it right, as usual. / GORDANA

Thankfully that Tea Party nonsense hasn’t caught on here, other than your occasional anti-tax kook and well-meaning but always completely wrong police officers. / HOWARD X

I would strongly urge folks to read up on the various tax challenges currently facing Californians. The following peer-reviewed research study is fairly current (March 2010) and comprehensive, so it’s also fairly long (88 pages.) However, the executive summary is fairly easy to digest for those with limited time but who may still be interested in reading some current and factual information on this topic and in considering some reasonable suggestions to address our challenges in this area: http://www.pacificresearch.org/docLib/20100414_taxifornia.pd And oh yes, I’ve always found Mr. X to be among the most civil, polite, courteous and intelligent people in the entire blog-o-sphere. / JOHN B. GREET

Hey, the standard of living in Sweden is pretty good, too, when I read studies. / KELSON

END OF AN ERA: DOWNEY’S SAMBI OF TOKYO RESTAURANT TO CLOSE, October 14  [ By Eric Pierce / The Downey Patriot ]

I am so saddened by this news. This is my family’s favorite restaurant, where we go to celebrate all our special occasions. So many of our family memories are connected to this place. My brother, sister, and I agreed that if we were granted one last meal it would be at Sambi of Tokyo. Sambi, we love you. Thank you for the 37 years of wonderful food and indelible memories. / DMENDOZA

My daughter had her Sweet Sixteen at Sambi. The service was always great and the food excellent! Sambi is a landmark in this city! Are they going to replace it with another Starbucks, McDonalds or some other useless franchise we don’t need? / LINDA U

We even had my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary luncheon there last year. Good luck to Sambi, and we hope another one does open up in the future. / RODIL S.D.

We had our first date there, we celebrated our engagement there, and have celebrated every anniversary there. The sushi was the best and the atmosphere was like no other. / BLANCA
