thumbs_up YOU DON’T HAVE TO REGISTER YOUR BICYCLE IN LONG BEACH, ANYMORE [ By Dave Wielenga ]

Not having this chore will give you more time to register your cat. / THE COMMISH

What’s with all the shameless self promotion? Long Beach–bike lanes are good. Quit saying you are (or are becoming) the “most bicycle friendly city in America.” It’s simply not true. The share lanes on Second Street are garbage and there is not a reasonable path or combination of paths by which one can circle the city. Also, too many bicycle routes end suddenly with no notice. Progress is good, but let’s not act like we’re there already. / JOSH

As an avid cyclist, I’ve used those shared lanes in Belmont Shore and never felt like my life was in danger—and, in fact, received nothing less than courtesy and respect from motorists. But I also use hand signals, obey the same traffic rules that apply to cyclists and defer to motorists when I thought practical, even when I actually had the legal right-of-way. As I result, I’ve received smiles and respectful hand gestures from motorists who appreciated my intelligent, courteous respect for traffic laws and road conditions. / DWR

HOW MANY CONDOMS PER SECOND ARE USED ON VALENTINE’S DAY? [ From Greater Long Beach ]

COMMIE GIRL: HEY, PRO-MUBARAK THUGS! DON’T BE TEA PARTIERS! [ By Rebecca Schoenkopf ]

Rebecca, you may want to review your assumptions as to how and where this (most recent) violence in Egypt originated and exactly who was committing it. The violence did not, as you so artfully imply, originate from among representatives of the government (police and military.) The “thugs” that came out were among the protesters themselves as well as opportunists who saw the sudden absence of the police and the notable detachment of the military as a chance to loot the property of others and to commit terrible acts of violence against anyone who dared try to resist them. / JOHN B. DELONG TELLS CITY UNION WORKERS TO ACCEPT FINAL OFFER OR HAVE IT IMPOSED [ From LBReport.com ]

It should be interesting to see how the unions react to this threat from DeLong and an earlier threat from Mayor Foster during his state of the city address. I’m not sure how this is considered bargaining in good faith, as required by law. I hope these very public threats don’t result in law suits against the city for violating the National Labor Relations Act. I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that mandatory “take it or leave it” bargaining is an unfair labor practice. / MIKE RUEHLE

BATTS WILL STAY AS OAKLAND CHIEF, BUT DOESN’T SOUND VERY HAPPY ABOUT IT [ Greater Long Beach ]

How’s it feel, Batts? What goes around comes around…karma baby karma. / WARREN HARRIS

Batts always blames others for his shortcomings. Didn’t take long for the shine to wear off–it took way too long in LB. / LB CITIZEN
