WHEN BELLFLOWER COULDN’T AFFORD ANNUAL CAR SHOW, ANYMORE, THE NOON LIONS STEPPED IN AS SPONSOR
By Dave Wielenga
It’s still possible to enter a vehicle in the Bellflower Boulevard Car Show, on the very day of the 12th annual version of the event is held … well … on Bellflower Boulevard. That didn’t look very likely a couple of years ago, when a budget crisis forced the City of Bellflower to cut back on lots of essential services—and some non-essential ones, too, like the Car Show.
But the Bellflower Noon Lions Club has taken over sponsorship of the event, enabling the embattled little city to keep one of its most-popular traditions.
The Bellflower Boulevard Car Show runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, when dozens of classic and antique vehicles will line Bellflower’s classic main street. Registering a vehicle for display is still only $25 per vehicle, plus another $10 to reserve a specific location. On the day of the show—that’s tomorrow—registration jumps to $40 and no reserved spots will be given out. All vehicles must be in place by 3 p.m. Entry to the boulevard is via Pacific Avenue from Alondra Boulevard.
In addition to automobiles, the event will feature food and craft vendors—a 10-by-10-foot booth is $50—and live music.
Admission for spectators is free.
