peetzacake NORWALK (Via Herald American)—Mike Egan was sworn in Tuesday night as the new city manager for the City of Norwalk, replacing Ernie Garcia, who retired June 1 after 31 years in the city’s government—the last 18 as city manager.

“I have known Mike Egan since I was elected to the City Council,” said Norwalk Vice Mayor Cheri Kelley, who Egan as “a chocolate cake acquaintance”—a reference to the social meetings at regional and state events where Egan represented the City of Bellflower for 22 years as an administrator, and the last 14 as city manager.

Egan resigned his position in Bellflower to take the Norwalk job.

Bellflower has hired Alliance Resource Consulting of Long Beach to conduct a search for a new city manager for a fee of $16,500. Assistant City Manager Lee Mingle is holding down the fort until the new one arrives—probably five or six months from now.

“Thank you for your friendly welcome,” Egan told city officials and staffers. “I will do all I can to serve this great city. I look forward to working in Norwalk. We can look forward to great things.”

Bellflower City Council member Sonny Santa Ines was in the audience during the ceremony. Egan joked that Santa Ines attended “to make sure I showed up for work.”
