OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA LBReport.com has learned that Wilmington Lomita, LLC, a Tom Dean-related entity, has applied for a Conditional Use Permit “to allow construction and operation of a 50 space truck transfer station on a vacant 3.4 acre site adjacent to the Terminal Island Freeway in the IL (Light Industrial) zone.” The item is scheduled to come to the Planning Commission on August 19 at 5:00 p.m.

The request involves the southern portion of the property to which Mr. Dean’s LLC obtained a city management recommended, City Council approved (8-1, Gabelich dissenting) lease amendment on Feb. 9, 2010.

In the Feb. 2010 item, Councilmember Gerrie Schipske moved, and Councilwoman Rae Gabelich seconded, a substitute motion to prohibit subleasing the property; the substitute motion drew opposition from a number of other  councilmembers; Schipske withdrew it and the Dean-sought management-recommended lease amendment carried on an 8-1 Council vote (Gabelich dissenting).

As previously reported by LBReport.com, two days before a scheduled February 9, 2010, City Council vote on an amendment to the property lease, Mr. Dean, accompanied by advocate Mike Murchison, met with a number of WLB community members (on Sunday Feb. 7). Among those present in the meeting were representatives of the WLB Association, including then-7th dist. Council candidate Jack Smith, as well as then-7th district Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga.

Asked at the time by LBReport.com for further on the meeting and the upcoming agendized lease amendment,  Murchison emailed LBReport.com:
