‘MARK TWAIN’S OTHER WOMAN’: A CREEPY TWO-TIMER, BUT STILL A GREAT READ [Jeanine Birong, Aug. 12]
In this 21st-century age of child molestation paranoia, would Mark Twain be given such a get-out-of jail-free card if he wasn’t an iconic American author but rather a sad-sack photograph on the state’s Megan’s Law website? / WTF
Pretty lightweight essay, Jeanine. Let’s add some weight to the subject. Let’s pretend God has made you the final judge for the final destiny of the complete works of Mark Twain. It’s up to you whether or not to allow Mark Twain to have intercourse with a 10-year-old girl. If you choose to disallow his ambition, all the collected works of Mark Twain are erased from the world’s memory, and are never to be seen again. If you allow Twain to have his 10-year-old, all his great works remains intact. Which do you choose? And why? / THE QUESTIONEER
562CITYLIFE.COM HAS ITS NAME TO ITSELF AGAIN [Dave Wielenga, Aug. 9]
Happy to hear that the name was changed so quickly. It’s funny, though, hearing about an arts magazine that basically ripped off the name of another organization. It’s an art magazine—how can you not be creative with the title? Does that mean that all their articles would be on plagiarized work? I’m thinking of creating an online newsletter called “Feelings of Jeremy Zachary.” But it in no ways is going to be affiliated with Jeremy Zachary—it’s just a coincidence. / 562LION
Fantastic news! And if it WAS all a ploy for some early publicity … brilliant!! No, really, I mean it…I’m all for savvy marketing and even a bit of manipulation, when things come to be fair in the end, and this is a fair conclusion. See, now I’ll be willing to check out the new publication, even if part of me will always wonder if the ‘dis and eventual rapprochement were always part of the plan! / MGC
We want to say thank-you to everyone who stood up a voiced their minds about what’s right. / 562MATT
CATCH & RELEASE: DON JERGLER READS THE FLAKS SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO [Don Jergler, Aug. 8]
Should we file this and all future columns here by Mr. Jergler under the title, Keeping Them Honest? / DWIGHT K. SNIDER
WHY THINGS ARE HILLS: WONDERING IN THE SIERRA WITH A GEOLOGIST AND A DOG [Elizabeth Glazner, Aug.10]
What a great little story! We love the Bishop area and are always in awe of those basalt flows and the natural rugged, beauty of the area. How nice it would be to live as a local and get to explore more trail off the beaten path AND have a brother who is a geologist and an expert in the area! / SURFER GIRL
You said “I decided to move to the Eastern Sierras.” It is actually the “Eastern Sierra,” not plural. If you plan on sticking around, you might want to change your reference. Nice story, though … / ROCK CLIMBER
So the unpleasant comments from the Press-Telegram get regularly highlighted with your thumbs down, but the unpleasant comments made on the stories posted on Greater Long Beach get your thumbs up. What’s the point you’re trying to make? That bad comments in the Press-Telegram are bad, while bad comments in Greater Long Beach are rad? Why not supercharge these columns by combining them together with a thumb pointing to you wearing a painted on sad clown face trying to smile? I think that would be really great journalism, because the graphic would be ironic, yet pathetic. Just like your odd choice for a column nobody gets but you. / ONLINE EDITOR
I find quite a bit of humor in All Wrongy. Too bad you seem to be lacking the ability to see it. / LBCITYGIRL
Is this the quality of reporting we can expect from Greater Long Beach? No context. Just random postings of commenters with various opinions. I don’t see them getting much wrongy. Are you trying to point something out here, Sparky? If so, then try doing it. / CONFUSING
At one point I gathered a collection of the choicest comments and e-mailed them to the publisher of the P-T, pointing out that the out-of-control commenters were more than likely alienating various demographics that subscribed to the paper. Never heard back. / HOWARD X
COLORADO LAGOON: SWEET SYNCHRONICITY MAY SAVE AN ABUSED OLD SWAMP [Dave Wielenga, Aug. 12]
What a wonderful report you have written covering the Colorado Lagoon’s struggle for rebirth. Thanks so much. / RAY THORN

I decided to save the 10 year old.
and why? Because tho Lewis Carroll and Mark Twain may have been literary geniuses, but literary genius comes and goes… eventually there will come along a writer to replace those lost works.
