Think Pink

jewelslb Kick off Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Weekend at the 5th annual Pink Party in the East Village Arts District.  This official Pre-Pride event hosted by the one-and-only Jewels Long Beach will feature a Drag Diva contest, DJ Barry Weaver spinning dance music, outdoor bars by Hamburger Mary’s and Bliss 525, and Big Pink Hair and Nail stations.  And, in case you missed the point, you should be wearing pink.

We Love a Parade

Of course the big news this weekend is the Long Beach Pride Parade and Festival.  The parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. at Ocean and Temple and heads west along Ocean Boulevard to Alamitos Boulevard.  Show up at the parade start at an hour early– 9:30 a.m.–and you could win some Pride schwag or even free admission to the festival (otherwise $20/day).

The 29th annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival takes place along Shoreline Drive and features headliners Queen Latifah on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and The Village People on Sunday at 9:00 p.m.

eat, drink, listen to tunes, look & shop

patchworkspring2012 Or so says the poster for Patchwork Indie Arts and Crafts Festival and it sounds like a perfect way to round out the weekend.  Delilah Snell of The Road Less Traveled and Nicole Stevenson of Random Nicole bring their bi-annual event showcasing local artists and designers back to Marine Stadium in Long Beach this Sunday.  The event features more than 100 vendors selling unique “clothing for men, women & kids, handbags, accessories, art, ceramics, home goods, garden finds, plushies, jewelry, paper goods, edible treats, pet gear, crochet & knit goods, kits & patterns, bath & body goodies & more.”  We’re not sure what plushies are but they’re probably awesome.
