ALAN LOWENTHAL RUNNING FOR CONGRESS—VS. RICHARDSON, SANCHEZ?
By Greater Long BeachCalifornia state Sen. Alan Lowenthal told reporter Kyle Trygstad of the Washington, D.C., news site RollCall.com Friday that he is running in a proposed Congressional district in Long Beach, setting up a possible three-way Democratic primary with Reps. Laura Richardson and Linda Sánchez.
The California Citizens Redistricting Commission released its first draft map a week ago, and both Members’ homes were drawn into a new Long Beach-based district. However, both could still run in other districts, and the map will be altered over the next two months before it’s finalized Aug. 15.
A thank-you to LBReport.com for tipping us to this one.

How old is Lowenthal? I guess it’s not PC to ask but he has to be over 70.
Alan is a neighbor and a pretty good guy, but it doesn’t make sense for someone to start a career in Congress at his age. It takes 3 or 4 terms just to get started in a system that runs on seniority, so he can’t possibly do anything for Long Beach in Congress.
Have you seen Mr. Lowenthal? He is in damn good shape. I’m sure he can handle it.
sanchez will clean their clocks no problem.
Forget the congressional seat! Alan should run for Mayor of Long Beach and would win in a landslide.
Like it or don’t (and, believe me, I get that some don’t), we are a capitalist society.
Thus, once all constitutional requirements are met, the next priority *must* be fiscal responsibility. With a fiscally responsible government we can afford some (but by no means all) social programs and services. We can afford to be generous. We can afford to help others. Thus, the more fiscally responsible we are, the more truly “compassionate” we can afford to be.
This, for me, is the clear departure from reality that most California liberals (in *both* parties) suffer. They want more, and more comprehensive, social programs but do not want to operate in the fiscally conservative manner required to *pay* for them. The result can be summed up in two simple words: “public debt.”
No matter how much of our treasure we send to Sacramento, they (we) always manage to spend more. Our public debt deepens. Our finances become less sound. Our credit rating drops. We pay more interest on our debts. Our debts further deepen. And *still* we spend more than we make. And the downward spiral continues.
We must first change ourselves.
We must begin living more within our own means and then we must require our so-called government representatives to do the same. Wherever an elected official fails of this requirement, we *must* replace him or her with another who will *not* fail.
Until we do *those* things, all we are doing is trying to treat the symptoms of the true disease.
Hon. Linda Sanchez deserves to return to congress, no matter what district! She has been a great rep for So. Cal and although she only represents a small part of Long Beach she has done more than most of our state reps.
Anyone but Laura Richardson?
