DELONG’S CONGRESSIONAL BID ENDORSED BY LB CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
By Dave Wielenga
Long Beach City Councilmember Gary DeLong announced via a press release this morning that his run for the newly formed 47th Congress District against state Senator Alan Lowenthal has been endorsed by the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee.
“It is an honor to have the Chamber’s endorsement,” said DeLong, according to a quotation included in the release from the managers of his campaign. “The Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is known for its ability to effectively represent the interests of the business community and support economic growth. I am pleased they have recognized my commitment to job creation, job protection and economic development, and I look forward to working with the Chamber to develop economic policies that will get our country moving again.”
The release did not elaborate on DeLong’s claim to a “commitment to job creation, job protection and economic development.” It did not cite any evidence that DeLong has created/protected jobs or generated economic development. Neither did the release give examples of any policies DeLong has helped implement or even proposed that would illustrate the nature of his commitment to employment and economic development.
Nonetheless, a quotation that the release attributes to the Chamber’s president and CEO, Randy Gordon, indicates that the organization based its endorsement of DeLong on the councilmember’s claims of job creation and economic development.
“We’re supporting Gary DeLong for the new 47th Congressional District because he has a proven track record of creating jobs and balancing the budget,” said Gordon, according to the release. “We need more representatives like Gary in Washington, D.C., who understand how the economy works, will work to improve economic opportunities for all Americans, and are not career politicians.”
GreaterLongBeach.com made an unsuccessful attempt to contact Gordon for further and clearer comment on the Chamber’s endorsement. A request for an interview was left on his voicemail.
DeLong has previously been endorsed by former Governor George Deukmejian, Congressmen Dan Lungren and Ed Royce, State Board of Equalization Vice-Chair Michelle Steel and Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe.

I think Mr. DeLong will make a fine Congressman.
It would be helpful to voters if all politicians and their supporters were required to provide evidence that supports their claims. If Mr DeLong has a proven track record of job creation and balancing budgets lets see the record.
hiring a gardener and balancing his checkbook technically show “a proven track record of job creation and balancing budgets” key phrases like “in my district” were left out for some reason.
Pure gobbledegook from two of the biggest sleazebags wrongbeach has to offer.
An ardent Republican’s view on the instant issue from perspective of 34 years
living in Long Beach,
Randy Gordon’s endorsement of Gary De Long-the most detached and disconnected Council Rep the Third District has seen in 40+ years should be
enough to convince anyone with an ounce of self esteem or self respect that
clearly De Long is not what we need,
Mr. Gordon’s lack of currency is brought into very sharp focus by his severely
disingenuous letter published by the Press Telegram dealing with PCH@ 2nd et al.
One would expect the President of a Chamber of Commerce to be honest,
forthright and present a balanced picture.Yet, that clearly was not the
case in his slanted letter. Were he selling a product one must wonder
what he would fail to disclose.Who would be comfortable about buying
a car, boat, house–or entering in any financial agreement with him.Certainly
does not instill confidence in the Chamber of Commerce having such a
person as its head. Consider:
While it is true the Planning Commission did approve the dubious,to long
tolling project-it did so by the slimist of margins.
Mr. Gordon decried the City Council overturning the Planning Commission’s
vote claiming it was anti business.Anti business??? Hardly.Few if any would call former Third Council Rep Frank Colonna anti business. The view
of that life long resident of the City was shared by the then Chair, who to
his credit, spent many hours with boots on the ground examining all the issues, especially traffic and came away with the conclusion the project,as
presented, was simply to big and to tall for the area engendering safety and
traffic issues-beyond that which could be effectively managed. That view is
shared by legions of life long residents of the area.
Equally disturbing was his failure to recognize the obvious ie–the moment
a ten story building was approve at that location in would be only a matter
of months before the owners of the property next to it(Whole Foods) would
seek to build to equal height on its existing stricture-as then could be
expected would the owners of the Congressional Building—therein
completing the diconnected De Long’s Canyon of Condos.
One would think Mr.Gordon would be spending his time helping his members to understand the import of keeping their property in a state
other than that which screams SLUM LORD!!!!!!!
In my view contrary to what Mr. Gordon claims–the action of the Council
sends a very positive message to RESPONSIBLE business people-viz
THERE IS A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN!!!! That sheriff will follow the law!!
We welcome responsible business people who understand the import of
keeping their property in A1 condition. Those who do not–are no more
welcome than any of the elected who pander to those that have allowed
their property to go to seed-thinking their project can be Fosterized and
rammed through regardless of the controlling, community engendered
controlling law–that is the message Mr Gordon and his organization should
be sending—-and does not send by endorsing he that is oh so lacking in the’ requisite DNA-and is void of any true interest or understanding of
Long Beach–or the critical issue of SOMETHING THIS WILL NOW
SEGWAY INTO–which will come up at the January 24,2012 Council Meeting–ie—–USE PATTERNS:
l.How they develop.
2.Their impact
3.What happens if they are not kept in check:
ESSENTIALLY WHAT GARY HAS GREEN LIGHTED TO BE
AGENDIZED…..is to open the door yet further to converting the
Appian Way/Paoli side of Marine Stadium into another Venice
Beach tack boardwalk area—just like in LA,
He open the door of the venue which per grant deed was created for
small recreational boating activity–to non boating, non coastal dependent
enterprise when he approved the weekly itinerant for profit flea market
which was soon forced to drop the claim OF FRESH FOOD—which was used to slip it in under the radar by claiming it was a local HOA event.
Then he pushed the door open further by green lighting a second non
boating, non coastal dependent enter;rise–which actually pushes out
‘boating activity when it is staged—ie–the arts/crafts fair–half a step
above a giant garage or auctioning of abandoned storage items,
Next week De Long will try to open the door further by introducing-
yet another non boating;non coastal dependent for profit enterprise–
a version of 24 hour Fitness:
It will be a baby stroller pregnant brigade—PROBLEM WITH WHICH
WILL BE SET FORTH IN A MOMENT –in next post.
What jobs track record????? Can anyone please tell me what jobs DeLong has created? I can cite numerous failed projects he supported (home depot, 2nd & pch, beach development, tot lot development, Belmont Plaza Pool rebuild, etc.). However, I can’t think of a single job creating project he sponsored except for the increased number of cocktail waitresses and bartenders hired in response to the 25 new alcohol licenses he granted on 2nd street.
THE PROBLEM: Now that the destablizing De Long has OPEN THE DOOR
to non boating,no coastal dependent activity—–EVEN THE CITY ATTORNEY
recognizes VISA A VIA THE:
US NINTH CIRCUIT RULING RE; LOS ANGLES VENICE BOARD WALK
ISSUE…..
Unless we close the door;revert back to and hold to intent of the Grant Deed-
THE DOOR WILL HAVE TO SWUNG WIDE OPEN FOR ANY AND ALL’
to come in–set up their:
l.Tent.
2,Blanket:
3,Cardboard box:
Do or sell anything!!!!!Ie–anything that one woujld see on Venice Boardwalk,
NO LIMITS ON ANY SOUND DEVICES—-!!!MUSIC;PREACHING:
OCCUPY RANTS!!!!!!!
Ruling flowed from fact LA had but X # of Third world type roll up door
stalls(magnates for graffiti)..but 200 X vendors…so Court said–people
could set up their own blanket;tent cardboard box;cart—IN SUM
ANYTHING GOES……..
That is what GARY DE LONG IS USHERING IN UNLESS WE KEEP THE
DOOR OPEN FOR ANY AND ALL—–who use it pursuant to the GRANT
DEED–IE—-BOATING
Laurence B. Goodhue
Mr. Goodhue is absolutely correct about gordon and the rest of the money whores.
Councilman Gary DeLong and the rest of Long Beach City Council have asked justices to overturn a Superior Court ruling that the city of Long Beach must provide the names of is police officers involved in shootings as requested by a Los Angeles Times Public Records Act information request.
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-police-officer-names-20120127,0,7553910.story?track=rss
An attorney for The Times contends the City of Long Beach and the Police union, although separate parties to the lawsuit, were “colluding” to skirt the city’s obligation under public records laws and indefinitely keep secret the identities of law enforcement officers who had exercised lethal force.
What this means is Councilman DeLong has authorized the City Attorney to spend TAXPAYERS MONEY to withhold the names of police officers who kill Long Beach TAXPAYERS. What are they hiding?????
At a time when DeLong is bemoaning city services being cut left and right, why is DeLong and the rest of City Council spending OUR MONEY to hide the identity of trigger-happy police officers???????
@ Ruehle: Unnecessary name-calling aside, Do you accept that violent retaliation against police officers can sometimes be a valid concern in these cases?
If so, do you think it is reasonable that we (the taxpayers) try to guard against that as far as possible?
If so, how would you propose we (the taxpayers) do so, if not by withholding names, even temporarily?
Do you agree that LBPD does not keep this information entirely secret and that we (the voters) have elected people to represent us in government (City Councilmembers and a Mayor) who have access to these names?
I do not think violent retaliation against police officers should be considered a valid concern in *all* such cases cases. Perhaps we can develop some sort of compromise method for making determinations about whether officers names shall be released to the general public and, if so, when?
One of the worst Council Members I’ve ever experienced. Hopefully his political career ends here.
