EMACIATED HORSE ABANDONED IN GUTTER
By The Downey Patriot
Animal control officials are searching for the person who dumped a severely emaciated horse in a street gutter in South Gate early this morning.
The horse was discovered on the 5400 block of Gardendale Ave. near Gardendale Park.
“SEAACA officers received a call at about 6:10 a.m. stating there was a full-size horse laying in the street,” said Capt. Aaron Reyes, director of operations at SEAACA. “When officers arrived, they found an incredibly emaciated horse laying motionless, but clearly alive.”

Disgusting. Animal cruelty stories like this always sicken me.
Shameful, if the owner didn’t want to, or couldn’t take of of this horse they could’ve taken it to someone else long before it got to this terrible sate of health. What really amazes me is that a horse isn’t like a dog or cat–they’re not that easy to hide. There had to be neighbors or something that saw this horse’s health slowly declining over time. Where were those people? I think they share part of the responsibility for this.
And really….horses do not belong in the city, having one anywhere near Southgate is kind of cruel to begin with.
I want the horse’s owner killed. I will happily pull the trigger. And,
after-wards, will sit down and resume my coffee and Danish.
I have only been in one physical altercation in my life. I attacked someone who was abusing a dog. I am very serious when it comes to animals.
I wish Long Beach would erect a stature to (the great) Justin Rudd. He is the cities Patron Saint of pets.
Hey Bill Wielenga, I HATE your posting the image of that poor horse. We who love animals already know the horrors of man’s inhumanity to man and beast alike. I really wish you would remove it.
I’m boycotting PETA. Those ass-holes think I will send them money when they send me emails and mail with pics of abused animals.
I KNOW the problem! I rescue on my own and am never able to erase such images from my memory.

Dear Dwight,
You certainly know your way around a Bartlett’s!
But, how about telling us how you, yourself feel about things?

Watched “Seabiscuit” on video this evening and now wish to assist with meting out punishment to the despicable person(s) who starved and dumped this poor, defenseless equine. If Mr. Mack wants to pull the trigger, I’ll happily supply the gun and ammo.
I’ll spring for the coffee and Danish too.
I wish the animal services had given the media a chance to “shout out” a call for anyone to come forward to adopt, care for the horse. The very fact that he was eating was a good sign, and was not necessary to euthanize him/her so quickly.
I grew up with horses as has my brother, a farrier of 45 years… There’s always someone out there who can/is willing to help. I for one.
I’m a firm believer in what goes around, comes around.
Yes, this horse in in terrible condition, but I am thankful that the owner left the horse where it could be rescued. This animal didn’t starve to death.
