A WAVE SO BIG NO BREAKWATER COULD STOP IT
By LBReport.com
It was a wave so big no breakwater could stop it.
It had been building for nearly 10 years, taking shape in 2001 when Long Beach’s then-Mayor Beverly O’Neill and her enablers swatted down an effort by then-Councilman Dan Baker (credited last night by Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga) to rethink the Long Beach Breakwater.
But that wave kept building, propelled by stubborn facts and unblinkable realities and coming from directions that went beyond surfers.
When that wave crashed through the City Council Chamber on June 22, it swept aside years of stale excuses as Long Beach’s elected representatives finally faced up to how much those excuses had cost this City.
Like a soldier on an island who didn’t realize the war was over, Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO came to the podium using a musket loaded with those stale excuses…and was swept away. READ MORE AT LBREPORT.COM

The surf will rise again!
I really enjoyed seeing the guy from the chamber of commerce get his ass handed to him by the mayor. I wonder if he thinks it was worth the $50,000 plus the port gave him to be their sacrificial stooge?
Anyways, how dare him be so disingenuous and insulting to the public-and the council! He’s really outgrown his britches.
Just got off the phone with Tony the Tiger! He is on location in Hawaii shooting his latest television commercial for Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes. He says the series of 30-second spots is surfing related and he is enjoying the humongous waves to be found in the Hawaiian Islands. Tony asked me to give his best regards to all the staff at Greater Long Beach on their latest endeavor. Tony the T thinks your… GGGGRRREEEEEEAT!
randy gordon is your typical unionboss. He does the dumbest things and the members won’t dislodge the hagfish from his position. He relentlessly says one thing and then contradicts it, as evidenced by his recent pimping. In one case he helps a wealthy stable company squeeze money out of a city he characterizes as “broke”, then shortly thereafter admonishes the city to not spend money because the city is “broke”? The astonishing thing is that he must believe we are all stupid since the money will be coming from the port not the city…oh that’s right the port gives him public (our) money. One only has to recall his garbage about being concerned with LBUSD schoolchildren while his union fought smart and inexpensive legislation to keep them healthy.
Has anyone thought about boycotting businesses that belong to his union?
What’s up with this crap? Once again Mr. Pearl feels compelled to rebuke and/or censor reader comments that fail to fall into lockstep line with his cycloptic editorial viewpoint. Is Mr. Pearl under the impression that he, and only he, is the final arbitrator of what is, or is not, the truth? Once again I ask, “Who is watching the watchdog?” Note: This comment is in reponse to a recent comment to LBReport.com that Mr. Pearl declined to post.

YES, DWIGHT…BILL PEARL JUST LOVES TO CENSOR!
IT IS VERY UN-AMERICAN AND IN MY OPINION BAD FOR BUSINESS.
THOUGH, HE DOES HAVE ADVERTISERS.
MAYBE SOME PEOPLE PREFER TEPID, BORING PROSE.
I WAS CHATTING WITH NEENA, PUBLISHER OF
“THE SIGNAL NEWSPAPER” AND SHE ADMITTED THAT HER READERS “DO” PREFER NON-CONFRONTATIONAL/CONTROVERSIAL
NEWS.
SO, I SUPPOSE THERE IS A MARKET…
I CONGRATULATE DAVE W. TONIA URANGA AND ME FOR HAVING THE ONLY UN-CENSORED VENUES COMMENTING ON LONG BEACH.
Let the Readers Be the Final Judge — Here is my original comment to LBReport.com: “Regarding the failure of the Kroc Project, it is my recollection that the public fundraising portion ($15 million) started to fall apart after Chris Pook of Long Beach Grand Prix fame and his associates withdrew their support after being denied the opportunity to financially capitalize on the project by getting a lucrative contract to handle the marketing. Correct me if I am wrong.”
Mr. Pearl’s offline response: “Mr. Snider: Thank you for your email comments re the Kroc Center. I’m reluctant to use the comments unless/until I have evidence supporting the contentions about Mr. Pook. I’m not saying they’re not true; I just honestly don’t know. Do you know who would know and if they have some memos or backup for this? Thanks much.”
My reply: “Yes Bill. My recollection is from a news piece by Dave Wielenga reported in the District Weekly several years ago. Regards, Dwight.”

Mr. Pearl’s reply: “Awe, what’sa matter? Can’t handle a response? We’ll buy you a tissue. Yes, readers are the final judge, and as a former Supreme Court Justice once said (paraphrase) the best test of an idea is its ability to survive among competing ideas. In that connection, your descent to four letter words only makes you sound mentally spastic.”
My reply to Mr. Pearl’s reply: “Touche! In perfectly clear hindsight my resorting to the usage of a four letter word was admittedly sophomoric. With due respect to Robert Frost, we all sit in a circle and suppose while the “truth” sits in the center and knows.”
No reply from Mr. Pearl.
