FOSTER CALLS SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING TO PICK LONG BEACH VICE MAYOR
By LBReport.com
Mayor Bob has called a special meeting of the Long Beach City Council for Tuesday, July 27, at 4:45 p.m. at which the only agenda item will be the selection of the Vice Mayor.
Mayor Foster has scheduled the Vice Mayor-selection special meeting in the middle of two other council sessions: a 3 p.m. meeting of the full Council sitting as the Charter Amendment Committee (to discuss proposed Charter Amendment ballot measures for the Nov. ballot) and a 5 p.m. Council special meeting on the fiscal year 2011 budget.
Five councilmembers have either stated publicly or from their prior votes can be inferred to be supporters of Suja Lowenthal for the mainly ceremonial Vice Mayor position, that has become a politically polarizing issue in recent weeks.
Councilwoman Lowenthal is not among the most senior councilmembers to whom the Vice Mayor spot has often gone in prior years. Among the two senior councilmembers, Rae Gabelich isn’t seeking the position but Patrick O’Donnell is.

If it was ceremonial there wouldn’t be a fuss. There must be a financial component. Some reporter should find out. I don’t care, “that” much…
My vote is for Suja.
