leemingle BELLFLOWER (via Herald American)—Assistant City Manager Lee Mingle will serve as Bellflower’s interim city manager while a consulting firm searches for a replacement for Mike Egan, who has resigned effective Aug. 25 to become city manager in Norwalk.

Mingle joined Bellflower in August,1995 as the city’s first public safety coordinator, heading up the city’s Public Safety Department where he was instrumental in establishing the current Sheriff’s Substation in downtown Bellflower, as well as overseeing the city’s contract with the county Sheriff’s Department. In October 1997, he was promoted to director of public safety.

Mingle has held a variety of other assignments during his 16 years with the city, including interim director of community development, and since 1997, he has served in his current position of assistant city manager. Besides serving as backup to the city manager, Mingle currently oversees the city’s Municipal Water System, serves as the personnel director, and chairs the Safety Committee and the Environmental Working Group. He also assists in the development and implementation of all employee labor negotiations, as well as the preparation and management of the of the city’s $46 million annual operating budget.

Egan has been with the city of Bellflower since 1989 and has been city manager since 1997. Egan replaces Norwalk City Manager Ernie Garcia, who retired June 1 after 31 years with the city, the last 17 as its top administrator.

The Long Beach firm of Alliance Resource Consulting has been awarded a $16,500 contract to find Egan’s replacement. The search is expected to take five or six months.
