JENNY OROPEZA’S LIFE REMEMBERED, CELEBRATED AT PUBLIC FUNERAL

Family members were joined Monday afternoon by current and former state lawmakers, local officials, political allies and neighborhood advocates at a public funeral, recalling and celebrating the 53-year life of Jenny Oropeza.
Oropeza, most widely known for a long political career that began with two terms as student body president at Long Beach State and took her to the California Senate, died Oct. 20 at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
Cause of death has not yet been publicly revealed, although Oropeza had a blood clot in her stomach for several months and was treated for liver cancer in 2005.
A crowd of more than 600 overflowed a tent erected outside the Court of Honor at Forest Lawn in Cypress.
