DOWNEY COPS GIVE UP PAY RAISES
By Herald American
Surprised and pleased Downey City Council members have accepted offers from Police Chief Rick Esteves and two police bargaining units to delay a 4.25-percent pay hike that they are contractually promised.
“This is almost unheard of,” said City Manager Gerald Caton said, noting that the agreement was unanimous among some 70 members of the Police Officers Association.
The voluntary action—which postpones pay raises for one year—will save the city about $773,000 in salaries.
