SEARCHING FOR THE GREAT PUMPKIN AT LOS CERRITOS YMCA
By Greater Long Beach
It’s not exactly a Pumpkin Patch, anymore.
The quirky, corny camp that the Bellflower Y’s Men’s club pitched along the front lawn of the Los Cerritos YMCA across all those Octobers is … gone?
Not quite.
But with the front lawn of the Los Cerritos Y’s longtime location on Woodruff Ave. in Bellflower replaced by a garden of drought-tolerant native plants, the Pumpkin Patch—the orange gourds, hay bales, supersized cutouts of Peanuts characters and miscellaneous autumnal icons—is now located
within the complex. It occupies a wide expanse of concrete just off the auditorium, protected from the elements by brick walls and a pop-up tent.
Call it … a Pumpkin Porch!
Whatever the name, the customers—mostly children, arriving with parents or school groups—have kept on coming.
Halloween is Wednesday, Oct. 31, but the Los Cerritos YMCA’s 2012 Pumpkin Patch—or Pumpkin Porch—closes at 9 p.m. on Oct. 30, which doesn’t leave much time to make a pumpkin purchase .
Uhhh, pumpkin porchase?
